95 mustang gt speedo not working

Default 95 mustang gt speedo not working

so my speedo stopped working on my 95 5.0 mustang 5-spd, it has 150,000 miles, my question is does it have a speed sensor or is the speedo gear driven?? i havent played around with it or even looked at it yet just trying to get a bit of info before i jump in. thanks in advance

its a little of both. there's a speedo gear in both the transmission and on the connector. but part of the connector is a sensor for the gear, if that makes sense lol. its an electrical speedo but it gets its signal 2 gears.

i understand, so now i have to figure out which one it is, speed sensor or if the gear went bad....thanks for all the help

when you say drive assembly, what do u mean? i know that there is no cable connected to the back of the speedo. im just going to change the speed sensor and if that doesnt work then its the gear. correct?

my speedo is off by 10-15mph y?? i do suspect it has gears in the rear could that b it and how could i fix it??

ok so its has been a while, but i finally got my stang back and just changed out the speed sensor, and the speedometer still doesnt work, the gear on the old speed sensor was in good shape and spun freely. so now im lost...what else could it be?? the gear in the tranny? or in the speedo itself??

Put your dvom on ac voltage hook to speed sensor have rear wheels off ground Start put in gear getting reading? If so remove instrument cluster check for voltage or continuity. Yea, you read it AC voltage not DC.

so when i check the voltage, if it does have voltage at the switch and NOT at the cluster what does it mean? and what if it has voltage at the switch and at the cluster what does it mean? thank you
