Default 5.4L swap?

Has anyone swapped a stock triton F series motor into the S197 body and made it work?

they are rated somewhere between 385hp- 395 lbs. torque I believe.

The shop I am going to school at has a few 5.4s and other V-8s lying around, I always wondered if those things would fit in the GT.

Must be nice to have an nearly an extra 100 hp NA with just a motor swap.. not sure how much more they weigh then the 4.6s though.

Intake and tune.. say, 400hp 420 trq??

A member here has done it in a V6 and goes in the 11s with it.
Also, PLstang has put a GT500 mill in his GT but he doesn't log in anymore.
It's been done but you're ain't choosing the path of facility...
Good luck.

I mean it's not a direct swap son.
The electronic hook ups alone are a challenge.
Since you're going with an engine (5.4 3v) that doesn't come in any of the Mustangs you'll have to customize everything...

I have heard that it is possible, but that not the most cost effective way to go about it. Stroking your 4.6 to a 5.0 is the easiest way to increase displacement. Then add a S/C or Turbo. You will spend alot more time and money on getting the 5.4 put in.

It's possible. The intake is the biggest issue.
As far as wiring, use a GT engine wiring harness on the 5.4.

Check out mustangcollective.com for several good threads on doing the swap.
Taking a stock 4.6 and building the motor would be an easier path, and is one I'm looking at doing. Yeah, 5.4's are cheap to get, but getting them in, plus the extra weight, is not that trivial. Still, it might be a route I end up taking as well!

okay, okay.. I was just curious lol.

I couldn't help but consider it after seeing so many V-8 blocks just sitting around waiting for a home.. I need to take a camera to school one of these days. Stroking the 4.6 into a 5.0 sounds cool, but the awe of having a big honkin' 5.4L would be pretty awesome indeed..

bahh.. it was a short lived dream, after reading- I think I'd rather save up for a whipple lol. Still would be nice if everything was laid out and done a million times over again (5.4/s197)

Also, I don't know where you got those HP figures for the triton, but stock it's a 310 HP motor. That's a lot of work for 10HP.
