Default 2011 5.0 Engine Query.....

Has anyone heard whether the proposed 5.0 "Coyote" engine for 2011 is going to be the old style ignition with a distributor or, more likely, a coil-on-plug version? There are advantages to either system.

it will be coil-on plug more than likely. i dont see them changing it that much. i hear its a 4v 302 with a little higher compression

It is a tuned-down version of the "5.0 cammer" engine in the FR500C... 4-cam, 32-valve screamer! Hopefully it has a 7000 - 7500 rpm redline in the 2011 GT!

I stand corrected... you are right! The cammer is a custom hand-built engine that could not be mass-produced. I give Ford kudos for building an all-new 5.0!

I wonder how much power it will be able to handle with stock internals. I'd love to supercharge one of those if it makes its way into the mustang.

I think anyone hoping to see it tuned to 400+hp out the door will be a little disappointed. I expect to see it in the 340-360 range.

My reasoning? Think about it for a second. This engine is gonna go along side the 6.2 in the raptor. And thats tuned to 400hp/400tq. Why offer 2 engines with roughly the same performance, only one costs a premium. Unless they're gonna offer a different cam/heads in the raptor to make the hp lower, which I don't see them doing thanks to economic reasons, the 5.0 stang and 5.0 f150s will probably have about the same power output. Just my 2 cents worth of speculation.
