3.73 or 4.10 gear?
I'm going to swap the stock 2.73 ring gear for a faster one and would like some opinions on which to go with. People with experience is there a marked difference in acceleration between the two that is worth dealing with the added rpm while cruising?

what car are you swapping them on? im guessing the 90 because 02 gt came with 3.27 .
It really only depends on what you want to do with the car . If you want a good streetable car go with the 3.73 In my opinion 4.10 gears make 1st gear almost worthless with a manual. Yes there is a significant difference between the 2 sets. But really going from a set of 2.73 gears to a 3.73 will problably make you smile from stop light to stop light. the 4.10 will probly make you eat alot of tires up and cruising in 5th will make you wish you had 6 gears.

I also changed from 2.73's but to 3.55's just this summer. Just le me tell you that you'll always have a smile when driving. I was deciding between 3.55's and 3.73's myself.
I could care less of the choice I made right now. I'm happy with my 3.55's. My buddy has an WRX STI and I stuck beside him. At 100km/h, I'm at 2000rpm. Good enough since I do lots of highway.

sorry I forgot to mention, yes its for the '90 GT also its unfortunately an auto so final overdrive is like .67:1. The car doesn't see much highway use just 5 min at 55 on my way to town that's why i was considering the 4.10's.

even with an auto trans the 4.10 set will break the rear tires loose at take off . The best use for that setup would be at the track on a car set up to maintain traction. The foxs and notchbacks are already light in the rear end. I had a set of 4.10s in a old comet with a 302 auto and it broke the tires loose with ease and it was much heavier than a mustang. Youd be better off with 3.55 or 3.73 plus going from a 2.73 is gonna be a really big difference.

I just went from 2.73's to 3.73's because I went conservative @ the last second. I'm here to tell you...I would go with 4.10's if a had the opportunity....cuz a few hundred more rpm is a good thing. 3.73's ARE way better than the 2.73's, though. I'll lock out OD by keeping it in 3rd around town & I enjoy it @ 35mph on up...It still lugs through 2nd gear though. I really think the car should have come out of the factory with 3.73's, they are pretty tame.
