Default Amp ?

Alright guys, I have no idea when it comes to this stuff.

I'm about to put a box in my car, its a 2x10" box @ 500W. I guess the subs are 250w a piece.

I would need a 2 channel 500 watt amp right?

If the box says 500w it's probably 500w max. Its an advertising thing some companies do.

Could you give me more information on the subs? Brand and model number would work.

500w might mean the RMS of the subs you can go above your RMS if you know the max power your subs can handle. I run 2 10" MTX Thunder 4500's, RMS is 225w with a max of 600w. I have a 1400w Sony Xplod amp running at 1000w RMS so both my subs are gettin 275watts over RMS. I've been on this setup for nearly a year and i havent blown a sub yet.

I would guess your subs are in a sealed box? When in a sealed box of the correct size you can easily run higher than the rms, but in a ported box you'd have a higher chance of blowing a sub goin over the rms.

I only run sealed boxes. Well they arent completely sealed, a 1/4 inch hole in each compartment for speaker wire to the subs.

wow....... um....... uh....... that isn't a sealed enclosure, and it also isn't a ported enclosure, it really doesn't count as an enclosure with a leak that big...

to pick an amp correctly you would need to know the impedence and voice coil configeration. Single voice coil, dual voice coil? How many ohms?

Well I didnt really put much thought into it when i built the box. It was a saturday afternoon and I was bored. Not much air actually gets out from the holes b/c I put cotton batting in the box.
