Default Diamondback-Mt. Mitchell-Parkway-Lenoir Cruise In

Date Change - See Page 4 Post #35 for new itinerary please.

New Date is June 9th.

The first Mustang Forum event I attended was last July, a trip up Diamondback (Hwy-226A) and back to Marion for a great lunch at Moondoggies. It is time we went back. I would like to consider 6/2 as the date.

I have been looking at some of the possible routes we could take -I am thinking we go up Diamondback to Mt. Mitchell (highest peak east of the Mississippi) for lunch, back down the Parkway to either 321 or 181 to finally end up in Lenoir for a cruise-in. Lenoir is holding their cruise-ins on the first Saturday of the month. The cruise-ins start at 4 and go till dark:30 or so. Lenoir's cruise-ins have some great cars, show quality to DD's, some great old muscle and some new stuff.

This would be a full day, but a great day of cars, mountains and of course we will find some good food.

Here are the two routes I worked on (I hope the links work correctly). Let me know if you are interested.

Alan...I'm in either way. Blowing Rock just adds 14 miles so why not?

Sounds like a fun day. I'll have to see how it falls on my calendar.

I hope we can pull it off, Lenoir will have 100+ cars on a bad day, they have had over 350. For a small town, they pull a good crowd.

Lenoir had 500 cars, yes 500 last Saturday. It was one of the biggest groups they have ever had.

Deb and I went up to Mt. Mitchell yesterday after Sonrise service. We got to the summit at 1:15 and it was 54 degrees.

I can't afford a GoPro yet, so I have a homemade mirror mount and a small point and shoot, my son-in-law calls it the Al-Pro.

Anyway, I shot a little video of the drive up Diamondback yesterday. It is a little choppy, but you can see how much fun the road can be. The only thing I don't like about Diamondback is there are so many driveways.

that does look like fun!
I see what you mean about the driveways... We will just have to keep an eye on John. no more Dukes of Hazzard for him.

Alan...I think the Al-Pro has it going on. Good exhaust and not a lot of wind noise.
