Default Do all of these old cars stink????

Everytime I drive my car around I smell like I stood behind it and camped out at the exhaust. Does anyone else's car do that? What did you do to fix it? I sure would like to be able to drive it to work when spring gets here, but I can't if that's going to happen.

Thanks,

Sounds like you have an exhaust leak seeping into the passenger compartment. A leak like that may not make noise but it can be there all the same.

You mean you smell of gas? Or exhaust fumes?

Exhaust...like I camped out at the end of the pipes and soaked it in. It's really bad with the windows down...doesn't seem to be as bad when they are rolled up.

Sounds (or smells) just like my car did.
Check your hood to cowl seal at the top of the firewall. I replaced it & I added a single strip of weatherstripping to the rear bottom edge of my hood to make the seal even better.
I have no problem now.
While you're at it make sure all the holes in the firewall are sealed & that none of the rubber grommets are loose (or missing).
You probably have a leaky exhaust doughnut or something similar. I finally replaced that also & got rid of the fumes but that cowl to hood seal did the trick even when I still had the exhaust leak.

I smell like that after I drive my '68. I just assume its the blow-by from the tired engine getting through the firewall. I never thought about the hood to cowl gasket.
