Even the salt down my way near Detroit is ridiculous. Gotta love Granmole. Canadian trash governing our state. Awesome.

I worked on a T-Bird from Michigan once that was SO rusty, when we tried to raise it with the hoist at work all we did was raise the hoit up through the floor. Srsly, the car never even moved. The rear diff cover was peeling off in rusty sheets, the front struts had pushed through the tops of the strut towers, and the brake lines were so corroded that every time you stepped on the brakes you would blow the hard line out in a different spot. I've never seen anything like it.

Thats why I drive a $200 beater in the winter and not something valuable. I learned to just replace the hardline from the prop valve to the brake hose, its easier than trying to splice it 40 times to fix the leaks. If you are going to the trouble of doing one, do all of them at the same time, because you will be under it doing the rest very soon. That was the first thing I had to do with my 84 F150 4x4, that and change the 2 barrel carb for a 4 barrel, it was gallons per mile with the 2 on it.

We ended up just yarding the turbo motor and trans out of it and scrapping the rest. Had to torch every single bolt to get them out because of the rust.

If a person wants to figure "cost per mile",,,, a Mustang of any vintage might not be the best choice.

Not because of exurbanite cost, but because of "attitude".... If cost is going to play a bigger role in driving a Mustang than the "fun factor", then buy a furching Honda....

Haha, I sold my $100 beater Nissan to a guy today for $500! I wasn't even trying to sell it. He just offered me the $500. Now I gotta start driving my Honda Civic or Subaru Justy.

If rust isn't a problem where you are, then Mustangs are fine daily drivers. Easy to handle, quick, responsive, fast to park. Choice of motors and options like factory AC. It's worked for me so far. I don't pour on freeway miles, so 15 MPG is fine.

Cost is not an issue over fun (but the point is, I don't have 12 grand to spend on my first mustang). The cost per mile was being compared to and F2/350 which would be just as fun for me since I'm into off roading and diesel tech; thats why I brought up the cost per mile.

I'm keepin my eyes peeled though. Second I'm able to do it, the Ranger is gone and a mustang is here.
