Last time I read that link the Corvair paint was still holding up very well after 2 years. The key to a good paint job is mostly prep. I say go for it, even if it turns out crappy it should help protect the metal and can always be stripped off. If you take your time and do it right, should turn out nice. Let us know what you do and post up pics!

Go for it. You have to be willing to put in the hours of prep, hours of sanding and hours of polishing, which is the majority of the cost of a good paint job. Take pics and share!

Rustoleum has it's place, like on farm equipment, frames, floors, etc.

But, if I was going to take the time (and EFFORT) to brush on and then color sand, I would not be using rustoleum.

Try some DuPont INDUSTRIAL Imron, 10 times better, dries with a catalyst, cures 10 times faster than Rustoleum, you can get it in ANY color and I get it for LESS than I can get Rustoleum for in a big box store.

How hard is Imron to remove in case he wants to go for a pro job one day? I've read that stuff is pretty tough.

Another plus is that the Imron wont need to come off, the industrial Imron is not an alkyd based paint, (Rustolium is) so it is perfectly suitable to paint over with ANY car paint. In any case, a d/a sander will knock the hell out of it in short order.

This stuff in not always available from an auto paint jobber but is still widely available.

The coverage alone is twice as good as Rustoleum. (in black anyway) In other words 1 gallon will cover what it takes 2 gallons of rustolium to cover. Been there done that. Coverage matters.....

Don't get me wrong, I like Rustolium for some stuff, but this paint is way, way, better, and more economical.

http://pc.dupont.com/dpc/en/US/html/..._Gloss_PDS.pdf

This is good "stuff" for an economy paint job. I sprayed this red for LESS than $45.00 a gallon vs. $$$$ car paint...

I was always interested in this as well. Try and fender and see how it turns out.. I wonder how rustoleum will hold up since I dont think it has uv protection or anything like that.
