Insurance may not cover the house. Lots of home insurance policies don't cover floods or other natural disasters.

Even if it does, the housing market in CA has yet to recover from a couple years ago, so he may not get back what he owes on the house.

Yeah it sucks for him house and car both can be replaced or fixed.But what about things you can't replace family pictures stuff like that.We get tornado's in Kentucky seen too many people lose everything in a blink of a eye.
