351w in a 65 fastback
Ok so I bought the Hedman Ceramic Long Tube Headers pn: 88666, they look way nicer than my old Hooker Comps did, even when new. I haven't installed the headers yet, as I haven't had a day off in a couple weeks and I've heard that it takes a couple hours per header. So I found out why they don't recommend breaking an engine in with ceramic headers... it's because of the extreme heat a new motor can put off and it can damage the ceramic coating... supposedly. I guess I just have a couple questions: 1. How can I fix the motor mount sag? The engine sags about .5" to the right side, I have early 1965 mounts that are new. Can I put a spacer of some kind between the mount and the frame to make it more level? 2. It says in the instructions that I need the car jacked up at least 36 inches off the ground and then jack the engine up a few inches from there to get the headers in and then drop the motor back down onto the mounts... does 36+ inches seem a bit high to anyone? I don't have a car hoist or anything and it seems to me like a car being 36 inches off the ground would be dangerous? 3. I've heard some people recommend torque straps with the early 65 motor mounts and it being an early model mustang... any input on those? It'll be putting out about 400+ hp and 375 ft./lbs of torque. Thanks a lot Guys for all of your answers and support!

Something is wrong. Double check to make sure you have the correct motor mounts and your motor mounts are on correctly. You may need 66 mounts, which sit up higher. Also, my headers on my 351W in my 66 slid in from below. I used my hoist to pick the engine up a few inches for more clearance while installing, but not even sure that would have been necessary. Perhaps they meant (said) 3-6 inches?

I believe that I installed everything properly and that I have the correct early 65 motor mounts, as the car is a January 1965 build. I think that the car had been hit on the passenger side fender and part of the inner fender and maybe the shock tower had been replaced as well? Because I measured from the floor to the top of the driver's side motor mount and that was taller than the measurement from the floor to the top of the passenger side motor mount. I'm thinking maybe someone re-did the passenger side shock tower and put the shock tower mount to motor mount connector in the wrong spot? I'm not exactly sure... could I buy another early 65 motor mount for the passenger side and then cut off the .5" of hard rubber material that I need to make up the difference and then add it to the motor mount installed in the car right now?

You have to jace the car up (36 inches) or use a hoist to get it that far off the ground so you can fit the headers in from the bottom.
You have to jack the engine up from the frame to get the clearance you need to fit the header in between the engine and all the other stuff that may be in the way.
When you buy coated headers the coating is not yet cured. Once you cure it as per instructions then they will take whatever heat the engine produces but high temps with uncured coating will boil the coating off the metal - it needs to shrink and bond.
