1965 Dual Exhaust - I'm confused
I bet someone can answer this question, help please. Please bare with me as I explain.
My 65 came to me with dual exhaust, not the GT setup. The pipes had chrome turn-downs that finished just after the valance.
Didn't look too bad but there were problems with the way someone had attached the pipes to the car just before the chrome turn-downs attached to the pipes. I had to change things.......the reason why isn't important.
I bought stock attachment hardware from CJ's and installed yesterday. But doing this forced me to raise the pipes to get them attached. Now they finish way too high! The valance is off the car. When I hold it in place the chrome turn-downs hit the valance, about in the middle of it!!!
My assembly manual shows my dual exhaust setup, and it shows turn-downs. I wonder if they are supposed to be non chrome, and finish before the valance, and only be seen just a little?????
Can someone answer this? Any pictures of a stock dual exhaust system without the GT setup would help too.

Not the best pic, but all I could find quickly. The exhaust tips, single or dual, in the non-GT set up were barely visible below the valance.

Thank you! That is very helpful. After I posted my question I got to thinking about it further and started thinking that the answer must be just as your picture shows.
Again, thanks for your help!
