1966 GT headers
HI,
I bought a set of Ceramic Coated Tri Y headers from CJ Pony parts on Ebay a few months back for my 1966 Gt 289.
I removed the air injector tubes a few years back and put the plugs in the holes, the plugs are the same size as the tubes but are solid and don't have the tubes coming out of them and are made to replace the tubes.
I went to put the headers on and the header flange hits the plugs where the tubes used to be, on both sides of the engine.
They would hit the air tubes as well if they were in.
I emailed Cj and they said that the headers are the correct ones and I have one of the few cars that has emissions control heads on it and they have never had this problem!
I find this hard to beleive...
Has anyone had a simular problem?
I guess I can just grind the plugs flush with the heads so the headers will fit?
Thanks!
Roger

RE: 1966 GT headers
Yes, you can ground them down, however, i would remove them and ground down the end, (that goes into the head) not the end with the hex hole. This should allow them to go futher into the head and clear the header flange. Just make sure the threads are nice and clean and not burred over when you reinstall them.
