Valve lash on a 200 I6?
What is the valve lash for the intake and exhaust valves on a 200 I6? My manual only lists V8's, and I can't find it anywhere online!
I believe it's .010" int./.020" ex.? Is that right? AHHH HELP!!!

yeah, that's a big problem. there are a lot of the inline 6ers out there and the manuals only show stuff for the v8 blocks. it's a bish, but that's how it is. i found a place that sells the repair manual with the 6 blocks in it, but i don't remember where. i'll find the link for ya, unless someone knows it/another one. try google'ing it or just go to a website where they sell the repair manuals. the one i found was like 25-30 bux or something like that, but worth it for the trouble it would be saving me right now!!!

I suggest checking the valve lash adjustment with a .019 feeler guage and box end wrench for adjusting while the engine is running (at normal operating temperature).
If the feeler guage feels too loose, tighten the nut or screw on top until it sounds like Pffft-pfft-pfft and then back off until it just begins to sound like clack-clack-clack. Dont forget to tighten the locknut (on older style rockers) and be careful not to let the screw turn while tightening the locknut. If your engine compartment is kitchen table clean like mine is, you will want to tear off a piece of aluminim foil and scrunch it over the intake/exhaust manifolds prior to running the engine with the rocker arm cover off. The remainder of oil splatter can easily be cleaned up with Dawn dishwashing liquid and hot water.

The only valves that have a spec in the mechanicals. I can't believe an I6 has mechanicals it must be hydraulic. A good rule of thumb on hydraulic's is zero lash plus 3/4 of a turn.

Thank you very much Cogtx, that's exactly what I was looking for. You're actually the person that I was hoping would respond...since you've helped me with my 200 in the past! Thanks again!

The difference between 0.18 and 0.19 is itty bitty. I suggested 0.19 as a starting point, then tweak from there. I would hate for you to get it too close, then burn some valves. Yeah, that dawn dishwashing liquid, or even the Automotive Simple Green is good stuff for getting off oil spills on engines. Hot water followed by high pressure water cleans her right up.
