Default Floor Pans

So I got a nice sized rust hole on the driver side, and a couple smaller holes behind the passenger seat. So now Im wondering how exactly these are attached to the car? It looks like the sides have lips that are welded to the car. So If I was to buy a new one I just break those welds, drop the new one in and re weld? Somehow this doesn't seem right... Were gonna just strip the car down to bare metal since it has to be replaced and look for any other cancer spots.

You'll have to cut those old floors out. There are some articles about it on the Mustang Monthly site I think.

Invest in a good plasma cutter and a mig welder.

I agree with soaring on the mig welder, it is a must. If you dont want to spend the dough on a new plasma cutter, you can rent one, or cut-off wheels on a grinder will do the job, only not as pretty. Plasma cutters take some practice and a steady hand also. You should replace both full length floor pans and seat risers. Make sure the car is level and on jackstands where it will not be moved during the process. It is not too hard of a job and the practice you get from the floor pans will help you when you go to replace the lower cowl panels, which are likely bad also.

Be sure to take lots of measurements on you seat platform. I changed the drivers side on mine and ended up taking a sledge to it to get the seat where it needed to be.

Ok so it is pretty straight forward to replace? I dont think we'll be able to get the plasma cutter but we'll see how things go. Right now Im doubleshifting at work to get more money to get it replaced. Ill post pictures of the damage later on when my sister gets home with her camera. The seat platforms look to be in excellent shape. We were thinking we could get a spot weld remover and take those out saving me about $60-70 on those.

1 piece floor pan would be the easiest, although not the cheapest way...i think they are still around 700 bucks

either that or you'll have to weld the individual peices together

Yeah, I want a one piece. This is a serious drag cause I wanted to save up for the paint job and I also plan on building a new computer later this year.....but the Mustang is more important right now..

Id work on the body before you do paint. It'd be like building a house on a crappy foundation....
