9402h138416 is not a valid vin, you probably read it wrong. are you sure its not something like 9F02H138416. because that is a valid vin. the second digit is either a F, T, or R.

9 - 1969
F- dearborn
T - Metuchen
R - San jose
02 - body style fastback
H - Engine code 351
138416 - consecutive code.

that is a valid Mach 1, only real mach 1's had the engine code H or M.

you also forgot about the Q, R, and S code MACH's

As for the engine code, it CAN be a MACH, it is no info in the 1969 VIN to prove that it is a MACH. The body code on the tag is the only way to tell, 63C.

Actually the body serial # (code) will only tell you if it supposed to be coupe, vert or sportsroof. In 1969, the term sportsroof replaced the previous designation of fastback.
The Mach 1 had either the 351 or the 428 engine with the famous shaker hood. Other Mustang big block cars got the 426.

say what? the body code on the tag is interrior specific, also, I have helped restore a 1969 Grabber Green MACH with a 390. Most MACH's did not have a shaker, and NO factory Ford ever had a Chrysler 426!

You are right about the 426 being a hemi.....Ford had the 427 and 428 Cobra Jets. However, the body code is in the warranty number (3rd and 4th digit) and the interior trim is in the body specific information above the warranty number. The interior trim number is the 5th and 6th digit. The interior trim code has nothing to do with what body is on a mustang.

ok, put down the pipe, I am talking about the body code on the data plate, NOT the VIN, and 1968 was the ONLY year that a 427 was listed as an option, yet none have been proven to exist. The interior codes also will give a hint.

Black, Mach 1 3A
Blue, Mach 1 3D
White, Mach 1 3W

He has a 351 2v sportsroof, so no hole in the hood. Only the 428CJ-R had that. So, you are right again Twister. Good job!
