289 QUESTION

RE: 289 QUESTION
I seriously doubt a 390 would fit without MAJOR shock tower work. I once put a Cleveland in a 66 coupe and the towers had to be cut and new upper control arm mounts fabricated. I have a 390 in my 69, which was made for big blocks, and it's real tight.

RE: 289 QUESTION
There is NO room for a 390 in a 66. The best you can hope for is a stroker windsor block for a 289/302/351. Even the 351W is a tight fit. You can get a 427ci stroker out of a 351W, It's killer. [sm=smiley20.gif]

RE: 289 QUESTION
no he didn't have to make any cuts that i know of, he said that it was really really tight, and he almost had to but he didn't. Another thing is though he spent a lot of money on that car so i'm really not sure what all he has done to it.

RE: 289 QUESTION
The engine compartment of a 67 is bigger than a 66. A 390 will fit in the 67 and up but not a 66.
A stroker is a block, say a 302, and you buy a new crank shaft that has a longer stroke for each rod. Allowing for longer piston rods, thereby increasing the cubic inches. Boring the cylender out also increases the ci's. A typical 302 can stroke to around a 331 or 337. I have see a 351W stroked to 427. A 351 clevland is a bigger block and will not fit in 65/66 cars
The smaller block will fit in the older mustangs such as the 65/66.[sm=smiley20.gif]

RE: 289 QUESTION
The FE motors (390/428, etc.) will fit in 67-70 cars but 14 exhaust bolt GT heads and GT manifolds must be used. Even with the wider engine bay, its real tight. In addition, the front sway bar must be the correct big block type to allow clearance for the oil pan and oil filter adapter.
