engine wont turn over start sol clicks
i bit ago i rebuild my 289 and i got it to fire first try, i started it to adjust the valves its a 66, but a few days later when i tried to start it again it was a no go. I turn the key and the only thing that happens is the start solinoid buzzes/clicks. I have power to all of my electronics, lights work etc. It ran bueatifully when we were adjusting the valves so im completely stumped on whats going on. Nothing has been changed or added when i put the engine back together, i didn;t touch the start/ starter solinoid or fool with any of those wires besides the alternator wires. If anyone has an ideas of what this might be id love to hear them.

RE: engine wont turn over start sol clicks
if those don't work put your car in gear and move it a few inched what i have come to fid is that occasionally when you stop your flywheel stops in a position and you will hear the solenoid click but it won't extend all the way so it buzzez and it won't turn till the gear is all the way out so that might be the buzz you are hearing i would try that b4 buying a battery cause turn your lights on if they are dim its your batt if they are bright its something else like what i said

what kind of alt. did you install. If it is the 1 wire version, you must rev the car up to about 2,000 rpms in order for it to start the charging circuit. I had the same problem with mine, but also check your battery ground, a bad ground will also do exactly what yours is doing!

Could also be a bad solenoid. (not closing the connection or fused, thus the buzzing/clicking)
Try shorting across the two copper colored solenoid posts with a plastic handled screw driver. If the car turns over normally then you have a bad solenoid.
