It can't be done without major overhaul of the small engine bay of the 65. The shock towers will have to come out for one thing. However, given enough money, anything is possible. That is an extremely heavy engine for that small body. Major bracing and suspension work will have to be performed.
Why not just buy yourself an 03 Mach 1 for less than 20K and be done with it.

I've never seen it and probably never will because it isn't worth it to put that kind of an engine in a 65. The most similar to what you're looking for that I've ever seen was a 93(?) Cobra engine in a '67 F/B.

Oh come on guys....

Hell yes it can be done

scroll down to the 9-10-05 section and check out the " '65 Fastback 4.6l DOHC Cobra swap"

Not only can you squeeze the dohc in there, these guys show you the whole process. flatblack, im sure if you contact these guys they would love to tell you more about the process, pricing, and what it takes to get that kind of power into the 65 stanger. Like Soaring said tho, anything is possible if you've got the $$$

HMMMM... Where be them shock towers? Yeah, obviously it can be done, but at what expense? I just don't see the need to put that engine in a classic Mustang when you can pick up an 03 model for a lot less expense than going through all that remanufacturing.

Soaring you have to admit the final outcome of the silver 65 fastback is badass! Sure some may see it as overkill, but if I had to pick between an 03 Mach that a lot of people can buy and a 65 with an 03 drivetrain that is almost non existent as a modded ride, I would prefer driving the old looks on a new poweplant.

Oh Im sure the pricing is probably pretty crazy...my guess would be 8-9 just for the motor and tranny alone, and probably another 2-3k worth of body mods to get the proper strength to hold that massive motor in there. Top that with all the other resto costs, and im sure this is probably a 25+ k investment. These guys look like they have done a couple though, so if there doing more than 1 or 2 and advertising that they "specialize" in DOHC swaps, then they must think its worth it!

No doubt they know what they are doing, and obviously they can do it. However, what their final outcome is is a bastard. If you want a 4.6 engine in a car, then just buy a car designed to accept the 4.6. I would think the 67 up guys could handle this swap a whole lot better than the 65-66 guys.

Bring it on. On the track, I would love to run it against an old vintage body and suspension.
