Best exaust sound?

Best exaust sound?
My 289 is due for a new exaust system, the current dual setup is getting extremely rusty from sitting so long. If money really isnt that important and im just worried about sound and performance what is the best setup?

well, im in no way, shape or form any kind of expert, but, i do know that you want at least 4" exaust pipes. the bigger the better from what i have heard. again, i am probably wrong, but i had to give my 2 cents. worth

I have long tube headers with flowmaster 40's. Sounds good for a while, but gives me a headache after a bit and is really not the way to go for a daily driver IMO. I am looking to change up my exhaust soon.

lol 4" whooaaaaa moma. Unless your setting up for a big block that needs some hardcore breathing, the biggest these small blocks need are 2 1/2 -3".
I am running full length hedman headers with 3" collector to a 3" tubing about 24" back to a dr. gas x-pipe with 2 1/2" outlets....which go to flowmaster 40's and 2 1/2" pipe all the way out the back (turn down tips are hidden behind the rear valance). Combine that with my edelbrock gear drive and it is one mean sounding mother trucker. The x pipe made for more of a tuned sound than the h-pipe and took away some of the drone during that 35-45 mph cruising speed.
I'll post some sound clips for you when I get a chance...right now im dealing with a p/s pump gone bad lol.
