Default My Monte Carlo bar

Here are a few pics of my bar. I welded the holes closed and painted the bar with bright zinc-it. As many of you may know the holes in most monte carlo bars do not line up with the fenderwell bolt holes. I chose the zinc-it because it looks matte chrome. I then sprayed several coats of clear. I had to grind the bracket to fit on the fenderwell as you can see. I still need to drill the holes that line up with the holes on the fenderwell. I will then go down to the hardware store and hopefully find some nice stainless allen head bolts. Just thought I show the progress so far. Don't mind the messy engine compartment. I have neglected it during the overhaul.

Mine were WAY off. There was no way I could have bolted it up and the top of the plate sit flat.

I have a black Monte Carlo bar on my car and was thinking of replacing it for a chrome one, but you guys are giving me second thoughts. If I take off the one that is on now, what are my chances of putting a new one on without a lot of problems ( holes not lining up, not fitting etc ) ?

How well do those work? I've never known anyone who has installed one.

I have had both the straight and curved bars in my car. I like the straight bar better but it doesn't clear my air cleaner so I have to use the curved bar. The straight bar works better than the curved one in terms of handling.

There is an article in the FAQ section for the monte carlo bars. It says the bars were developed for the 65-66 cars. That is why the holes are a little off on the 67-and on cars. I plan on using my Cobra air cleaner so that is why I got the curved bar.

all this talk makes me want to get one. (seriously) but if i do get one i want to get the TCP export brace and monte carlo brace which is shown on this link. http://www.mustangdepot.com/OnLineCa...brace_kits.htm Is this kit harder to install because it looks like you have to take the fenders off to mount the monte carlo brace?

that costs to much to me, and it basically is doing the same thing a $20 monte carlo bar, and a $60 export brace would do. They do help alot.

I highly doubt that there are any real noticeable differences between the straight and the curved in terms of handling, however these bars do stiffen up your front quite nicely. If you match it with a sway bar underneath, it really reduces roll and improves handling. I would definitely go with the curved setup--as already noted it allows for better air cleaner clearance and it gives you better access to the distributor and cap.
