I don't know where you dug up that urban myth, but the Mustang II was on the drawing board in the early 1970s. To suggest that "some woman" said the Mustang was too big in '73 and the designs were approved (for the II) and production was begun all within a year is just silly.

yea i thought it was kinda wierd. i have 3 books on the mustang, and none of them are in tune with each other

Who was the guy who brought Larry Shinoda over so he could design the 70-73 msutangs? He also liked the cut off rear end treatment on the 71-73 and pushed for it.. he had internal troubles with other managers there, but he did some cool stuff at ford..

here is a Hint, he worked as GM of Pontiac when they went back to their roots and started building performance cars again..

Knudsen brought Larry to Ford. Shinoda also had a big part in designing the Boss 302.
