I think the older, they are lighter and faster compared to the 96, the Hp rating was still only 225 and then add the exhaust, I think the 66 will get it.

Well most cars are heavy, but old mustangs really weren't, the 66 GT is about 3,000 pounds, I would think a 96 would weight like a 200-300 pounds more?

yep, so the old ones are faster, but I dunno if a few hundred pounds would make THAT much of a difference.

The old mustangs are not hotrods!!!! You car make them fasts but they are not stock. The newer one would win hands down. It would lose to my mustang but I got to money in mine.

Well I have a 302, flowmasters, 4 bbl Holley, shift kit, extended gear ratios, and a few other goodies, I think i am doing about 260HP. I looked up the stats on a 96 GT it says 4.6L that is about a 289, and they say it is has 215HP. So my car is lighter and has more torque, and only 3 speeds which is sorta good, cuz it barely shifts, it just goes, so I think I would be able to beat a 96 GT.

But stock vs.stock I'd have to go with the 66 still, I thought the 96 had more HP, but I guess not, so with the 66 being lighter more powerful and having a stronger pull I think it could take a 96, but not by that much.

I think you might get some pushback on that statement by someone with a 427, 428 SCJ, Boss 302, Boss 351, or Boss 429 just to mention a few.

I think the point most people are missing here is that in 66 the "GT" badge was nothing more than decoration. It was an appearance package upgrade, nothing more. The engine to get was a "K" code engine and you could get that in any plain jane mustang out there. It put out close to 270 hp. The A code was like 225 (4v) and the C code was 200 (2v), then of course the 6-cyl. You could get a GT package on the 200 though.

Now all that said. I think the hp ratings were different then and overrated. My guess is unless he has a K-code engine the 96 will take it.
