engine overheating mystery

Default engine overheating mystery

Hi my 65 mustang 289 keeps overheating . It started one day right as it started it began dripping out of the over flow tube then progressivly get real bad with steam as a result i rebuilt the heads got them decked and replaced all top end gaskets. then replaced the water pump radiator and heater core and thermostat and after all that the car still over heats beging with dripping them steam please help

after starting up the car and letting it run the coolant level in the radiator never went down after initial filling it looks like nothing is circulating in the radiator what could be the problem

are you certian the thermostat should have been open?

you need to do a pressure check on it probably got a air bubble somewhere or the thermostat is in upside down

I tried running the car with no thermostat and still had no circulation in the radiator and i was having the same problem with the old water pump

flush and clean.

You say you just did the heads....pull them and make sure you didn't install your head gaskets backwards which would block the water ports

While the intake is off make sure your flow isn't blocked by rtv and/or other crap that builds up in 40 yr old blocks.

all gaskets were replaced correctly . All this was done as the car overheated and the gaskets were suspect
