Best size tires for the back (64 1/2)
Ok, I promise, this is my LAST tire thread...he, he, he.
Some fellas already gave me some GREAT advice through private messages on tires, to those guys, thanks a million, you rule.

I just wanted to make a poll, that way I can see for myself what my fellow Stang aficionados prefer in terms of tire size for the backs, I already purchased BF Goodrich T/A Radials with raised white lettering 205 60 15 for the fronts, I went that way to avoid tire rubbing on the fenders.
However, I'm still undecided which size tires to go in the back.
The suspension, springs, steering kit, have all been purchased, and are ready to be installed, so the bottom of my pony is good to go for some killer wheels (Torque Thrust D 15 x 7).
I actually wanted 215 60 15 but they are sold out EVERYWHERE!!! I mean, Tire Track has them in backorder for at least THREE months! Walmart doesn't have them, Sears doesn't have them, and even eBay doesn't have them.
So please vote in the poll as to which are best for the back......
BF Goodrich T/A Radials with raised white lettering:
215 65 15
or
225 60 15
...and remember, the fronts are 205 60 15, and the wheels are American Racing Torque Thrust D's.
Thanks guys!

The 205's are a good size for all four corners. I never could understand why guys want bigger tires on the rear than on the front. Unless you have a fairly hot engine, you are not going to get much benefit with big tires on the rear, in fact you are going to lose HP.

Explain to me how you will lose hp by have a wider tire in the rear? Get the wider tire in the rear. A 225 shouldn't rub. I'm runnnig a 245/40/17 in the rear on my car and I barely have any rubbing. And my rear is lowered. A wider tire (not crazy wide) will definitly increase your handling and performance (larger contact patch with the ground = good), not harm it. That's my understanding.

Mmm, only two votes so far, 225 60 15 is winning.
Can any 215 65 15 and 225 60 15 users tell me how they fit?
I'll wait for a little longer, hopefully some more votes coming, I just don't want ANY rubbing on the backs either, not doing any modifications to the back frame either.

A wider tire will have slighly more weight at a distance away from the center of the axle. That puts an inertial force that resists motion on the axle and in turn the motor, that can affect hp in a very very minor way.
I however would think that these losses would be negated by the ability to apply more friction force to the ground with a higher contact area for more traction. Another key to remember that the friction from a wider tire "lowers hp" also becuase more frictional force is applied against the tire as it rolls.
It won't be that big of a difference, do what looks good and gets the best traction.
Just my $.02.

So 225 60 15 won't rub on the back? That's the size winning in the poll.
I'm itching to order them right now, but I will wait a tad longer for more opinions on this matter.
