Default a new build

Well, it's kind of a new build. During the endless nights of aluminum head research, I couldn't make up my mind of what I wanted or needed. I figured I would have to go with a 1.90 or 1.94 intake valve due to my stock pistons. During one of my nights with the computer(my new girlfriend), I stumbled upon a local drag strip classified board. Lots of neat stuff. Anyway, I saw a 351 Windsor for sale. It was the complete motor with extras for $2800. I thought that was way too much. So I e-mailed the guy anyway to inquire about it. He contacted me and said the heads had been pulled off to run on another car but he still had the short block. He wanted $1500 for the short block, victor jr manifold, edelbrock card, MSD 6A, C4 bellhousing, and a new starter. Here is the add:

351 Windsor For Sale - 1975 block .030 over skirt coated sealed power pistons ported heads edlebrock victor jr. intake elgin cam edlebrock carb good street motor fresh never installed complete engine with msd 6a ignition c4 bell housing and new starter must sell 2800.00 call ralph 232-8759 or email rac_eng1@hotmail.com 1/13/06

I went and looked at the engine the other day and the first thing I seen were head studs. I thought, OK, this is cool. The engine has sealed power coated pistons, ford racing rods, and a Elgin cam w/512 int and 535 exhaust. I think he said about a 250 duration, can't remember. The block was sent to the machine shop and line bored, balanced and whatever they do to them. He was going to throw in a factory distributor as well. He said it was run on the dyno for three hours only. It had never been in a car according to him. He claimed it dynoed at 535 hp. The heads he had on it before were sent out and professionally done. I asked for the sheets and he said he will look for them. I can't believe it put out that much unless he was using some sort of aid like a blower or alchohol. I told him that I'd think about it. He had to drive to Anchorage to pick up all the parts except the short block and manifold from his storage. Several days go by and I called him today. He still hadn't driven to Anchorage and I don't think he wanted to. He offered me the shortblock and victor jr manifold for $1,000--all because he didn't want to pick the other stuff up. I told him I'd take it. I was going to pay him the $1500 for all the stuff anyway. In anticipation of purchasing the shortblock, I ordered new aluminum heads today. I got the 210cc Pro-Comp aluminum heads with 2.02/160 valves and 60 cc combustion chamber. click here to see heads. I also purchased a new set of 1.7 roller rockers and welded aluminum valve covers that will accomodate the rockers. click here to see rockers. I have never owned a 351 Windsor and am looking foreward to seeing what it can do. I will pick it up tomorrow and post some pics.

is the block roller? 92-96 351w block? might want to check into a roller compatible motor from an f150(or even a lightning)for that matter you can pick one up for about 700$ with low mileage form a dismantler. id go for a complete used motor with a warranty but thats imo

Anything is compatible with a top loader. I don't have the rear end yet. As far as roller blocks in Alaska, these dismantleing yards around here a bunch of crooks. My brother-in-law works at one down the street. I would never buy anything from those people because they are so expensive. I'd rather buy new than support those crooks.

so what you are saying is that I'm paying to much. I figured with the machine work and parts the value was there.
