OK. I poked a peak under there and it is square w/ 11 bolts so we can rule out C6. As for this FMX, I have no clue, I doubt it because it doesn't look like the previous owner did any mods except put in a later 302 2V that I have yet to pull the block number off of and identify the year. I think it's at least a 69 or later because if memory serves, 69 was the first year they made them. Follow up question to grruminator78's thread. How important is it to change the fluid in the convertor also. I didn't want to refinance my house to change the tranny fluids in this thing.

It can't be a FMX because an FMX has 13 bolts, and the pan has a little "S" shaped curve on part of the pan. You have a C4

You can just change the fluid in your C4 tranny without changing the fluid in the converter. But, if you want to change the entire tranny and converter fluids, it will cost you some. Mayby 60 bux. No need to refinance your house.

Be sure to use Type F fluid in a C4, Dexron of any type will ultimately tear it up. BTW, I had a small block C6 in my 1970 1/2 Falcon with a 302. I put it in after the warmed over 302 lunched 2nd gear in the C4.

The stuff I got says Type FA. On the back it says it is for older cars that require Type F oil. Hope that's the same.

Thanks!
I never knew how to tell the difference visually, just that FMX would start in 2 if placed in 2 but C4 would still drop itself back to 1 if you stopped with the shifter in 2. At least that's what mine does??? I dont like autos anyway!

Haha, well I don't know about the shifting, because I havn't had my car running yet in order to test it out [&:]. I just learned how to identify my tranny through this forum, so I'm glad I was able to help. I have pics of my tranny pan if you want to see hahaha.

SO, I went and purchased a tranny filter and gasket last night. All I can say is thank GOD I wasn't installing it last night because out of the box that gasket is twisted like a pretzel, it would have been impossible (even with 10 hands) [:@] I have it weighted down under heavy books to try and flatten that sucker out. Does anyone know what the torque is on those tranny pan bolts? Thanks.
