Leaf over on a classic mustang is essentially mentally equivilant for many people to saying you want to do this
Because the leaf over is the old school tried, true, and trusted method of gaining additional ground clearance on the cheap in your solid axle 4x4. Interestingly enough in recent years with the sport truck lowering crazy, the reverse has become popular with axle flips used to lower the truck considerable.

RE: Rear axle over leafspring flip?
because....I just changed ALL of the front suspension when i had the engine out and the engine bay repainted. put in new A Arms, bushings, shocks eveything, except springs<--- Because i felt it was already to low in the front, They may have been after market springs already or just sagging because of time but the top of the front tire is even with the lip of the fender. Most of the 71's i see are a little higher, or does the lowering springs tuck it up more in the front? -Jon

You have a Grande, right? They sit low from the factory. Here's a before/after with a 1" lowering kit on my Grande. Just get the standard eye springs or have a shop like Inland Truck Parts custom make you a pair of springs. Yes, the rims are different, but the tire height is the same.
