Maybe i should have stated my goal before posting. The Mustang i am building is not going to touch the street. It is indeed going to be strictly track. I just want to see what kind of power i can get coming out of the infamous cleveland. with the model car i am using, I am aiming for 9's this summer. (have to beat the 85 mustang with the 340 chrystler motor this year). Sad to say my friendsbuilt ford tough with chrystler stuff mustang is the car i aim to beat. At a 9.98, I got a long way to go. Let me know what u think.

track use with big cam go with the 4bbl heads - someone on here prolly knows but who makes stroker kits for the cleve's? will a 400M crank work?

Get the 3V heads from chiheads, the ones at the bottom (they flow around 370cfm, much more than 4V heads). You are going to need a full roller valvetrain, the oiling mods, forged rods, light pistons like Ross or Venolia. If you dont mind running race gas, or you can run race gas, crank the compression up around 13:1-14:1. I would figure a 1050 Dominator on a high rise single plane such as CHI sells, and headers with 3.5" or 4" collectors.

Figure a minimum of 4.11 gears but you might need to go up to 4.55 or 4.88 and run a 28"-30" slick. 5k stall and get the car as light as possible, a powerglide would be an option if you dont mind the auto, otherwise a built C4 with plenty of billet inside. 4.11s would run better with the C4 where as the deeper gears would like the glide better. I recomend against a clutch unless you run a dual disc setup with a Jerico/Lenco behind it.

Think motor plate front and rear. You dont need the engine wasting energy by twisting in the stock mounts, it will also open up room for the headers. Get the car as light as possible. You will still need over 700hp to run a 9 if you are near 3000lbs.

Think about a stroker for the bottom end, maybe even a windsor bottom end with the 3V heads. I would go for at least 408ci, if not more. Oh and plan on spending around $10,000 to $15,000 to build it if you want that kinda power from it reliably.

Forgot you have a 73... think fiberglass and lexan. They are heavy for a race car. But its doable...

*cough*windsor*cough*

haha, Im not a fan of the kleveland. If all you want to do is go fast, a stroked windsor (408ci or better) will be far easier and cheaper with a buttload of nitrous. If youre really bent on the cleveland, by all means go for it, I love those who dare to be different, but like I say, itll cost you.

where did you find a stroker kit for a cleveland? and will the kit work with 2V heads?

- 1 billion for 2V heads

maybe you should just build a 400M with cleveland 4v or those 3v heads... or aussie heads

Stock iron C heads are dinosaurs, even ported. 4v heads need port plates to flow fast enough in the intake route. 2v flow the same as 4v in the exhaust route. Aftermarket aluminum is the way to go. There's way too much folklore in this thread such as "but the cleve will run circles around windsors anyday of the week". Hp and Trq can be made the same in both.

yes but the cleve is more unique and it revs quicker stock rotating assemblies in comparison and u cant take a stock headed 351w and make 400hp with a cam, headers, and intake now can you out of 9:1 compression
