nothing can replace a good bodyman and a hammer and dolly!! i have seen the best in our area use "bondo" with no problems....IMO bondo is used as more of a surfacer than a dent repair item...

how much is to much is subjective...

Bondo is a tool, that’s all, Get as much of the dent out with out bondo and then use the least amount you can. Nothing wrong with bondo, the problem comes when guys try to use to much instead of pulling the dent out more.
The good thing about bondo is , ifit cracks and breaks off, all you need to do is sand and grind and put it back. Experience.

Don't know if you guys have heard of it but we have some stuff here called "Bondo Hair" and its bondo with fiberglass mesh in it. It works much easier than bondo or fiberglass. Haven't sanded it yet so i'm not sure how it finishes out but it seems much stronger than regular bondo

Tigerhair or any that have the fiberglass in it is a little bit harder so it takes a longer to work. It is stronger than regular bondo. The same concept apllies, use as little as possible.

and the "small" amount is really relative to the size of the area your working. think more "thin amount". or at least thin as possible to do the job.
