about my engine...(updated)
so ya...i was supposed to have it running monday, but instead i got a nice backfire and a fireball, lol. I finally have everything hooked up on the car and I went to start in Monday after pooring some gas in the carb to prime it. It tried to turn over real slowly and then backfired at me and lit the carb on fire. Luckily nothing broke. The choke was a lil TOO open but it seems to have relaxed now that it cooled down. Tomorrow I have to pull of the heads and reinstall them cuz they are on the wrong sides and then I'm gonna check to make sure i get cyl 1 to TDC and try again. So...the quest continues!
EDIT* Just keep reading, dont reply to this, this is only half the problem.

RE: about my engine...
how are the heads on the wrong side? they will fit either side its the gaskets that have to be aligned to the right direction?
is it because the hole are not drilled for the accessories?

RE: about my engine...
Heads don't have sides. Even the accessory holes are the same. The ones that used to be in the back may be rusty and hard to thread, but you shoulda taken care of that before puttin' 'em on (put that in the lessons learned file).
Sounds like you have a timing issue. Double check the firing order vs the cam order and that you have the correct rotation. Hook a timing light up in order to read where your timing is. SB around 10* or so to start with.

RE: about my engine...
its the accesory threads that are wrong, where the A/C and P/S would mount, im missing a thread holeI dont have a tap and if i pull everything off its easier to make sure that cyl 1 reaches TDC when the crank reads TDC.
