Default Hole in gas tank

I have a small hole in the top of the gastank in the '65. I know working on the gastank is dangerous so any suggestions. The hole is about the size of a dime.

any help is appreciated

Drain the tank, take out the tank, replace with a new one.

i agree with soaring.... just get another one... my mom still tell horror stories of my uncles working on gas tanks. (they tried to fix a tank and blew up the entire garage.) I bet my grandpa was happy lol. You can prob find a used one or if you can afford a new tank right now.... Drain the tank, make thwwholenice and round (drill or watever), clean out the tank, and put a rubber stopper in the whole. Just whatever you do.... DO NOT USE A WELDER. Gas tank+ welder=explosions and skin grafts. If the whole is in the top of the tank stop it and get a new tank when you have some money.

thats the main reason 40 year old mustang show up on 60 minutes is because of bad tanks also get a new rubber hose to top it all off and seal it with some seam sealer before dropping it in

Yes, like Soaring said, get a new one, they are pretty cheap.

If you can't afford to buy a new one right now, make a small round patch out of sheet metal, approximate 2D(if it's 1/2" across, make it 1" in diameter) and secure with JB Weld. That will hold you till you can replace it.

I agree with James. I would never take a drill to a gas tank. Even drill bits can spark.

AND, you'd get metal shavings in your fuel...

Don't be messin' with that tank - drain it, replace it with a new one. The cost of a new one is miniscule compared to blowing up your garage/house or you in the process of trying to fix it.
