okay am I missing something. The car is a 67. 67 390s had S, 68 390s had Y correct. So if the vin has a Y shouldn't it be a 68?
Logically speaking, yes. But, who know what happened with this vert. Like I said before, it could have been one of the last 67's built and the assembly plant ran out of 4v 390's, but just got in a butt load of new 2v 390's. It would be good to know the build date on this particular car. Also, how many times have we heard of guys with the wrong VIN on their car? Folks at these Ford assembly plants are just humans. Mistakes can be made. However, the evidence here is that this vert indeed does have a 2v 390 in it, so should have a Y code in the VIN.

well that's what I was getting at, could just be an incorrect vin. Would love to see the marti report, in that case it could be a rare 67 vert...
I'm as interested as anyone should be about a wierd occurance. Like I said I'm not calling anyone a liar, it's just a little strange

It would be interesting to see if this is a numbers matching car. Mustangs were not numbers matching (VIN stamped into the block and all other major parts) until 1968. If this sucker is numbers matching, then it is a 68. Hmmmm. That opens up all kinds of possibilities, doesn't it?

yeah, like I said crazy. I'd love pics and what not, a full vin would be nice too. Sure it's possible it was a late 67 and they put the correct vin # on there, but whatever. a picture is worth 1000 words as they say. I just would hate for whoever is buying this thing to get a junker/fake when they thought they were getting a gem. Also like I said before, who really cares??
If it's a decent price (hasn't said or I missed how much they want for it) and a driver with a 390 (or any V8) it's still a good buy. My vin says 289, but I got a 302!!

Ok, dumb question here, but you say mustangs werent numbers matching till 68 n that this year has the stamp in all major parts. DId the 67's not have stamps throughought the car? and what would really make the car a number matching car?

Starting in the 1968 models, Ford stamped the VIN on the engine, transmission and rear end. Until 1968, the VIN was not stamped on any major components.
