Default My buddy wants a lopey cam

so my friend at school has a mustang just like with a 289 in it and he wants to do a cam in it with a nice lope to it so he got me some part numbers and i looked them up at work and i think he might be going a little high on it i wanted to get some more oppinions

first was the clevite 229-2058 = 218int/exh @.050 with a .488int/exh lift and a 105/115 lobe center
second was the crane 130092 = 222int/exh @.050 with a .498int/exh lift and a 110 lobe seperation
third was the comp 268H = 218int/exh @.050 with a .456int/exh lift and a 110 lobe seperation
fourth was the lunati here listed as shleby cam in lunati book
fifth was a lunati here voodoo cam
sixth was the Ford Racing Cam here i recomended this one i was told it would be ok but i havent installed it yet
seventh was another clevite 229-2138 = 224int/exh @.050 with .466int/exh lift and a 106/114 lobe center
eighth was another clevite 229-1616 = 228int/exh @.050 with a .477int/exh lift and a 108/120 lobe center

i didn't quite know what one would give hime a fair idle with a good lope i am not a cam guru so i leave it to you guys

In my '65 GT I had a Comp Cams 270H which gave a nice lopey idle but was still quite streetable. 0.5" total lift, duration @ .050 = 224/224.

i know thats why i was against the 228 dur cam cause i know that might be a bit much cause the smaller the motor the more noticeable a cam is and the more it affects it thats why i was thinking the clevite 229-2138 = 224int/exh @.050 with .466int/exh lift and a 106/114 lobe center would be plenty

The cam I listed idled like a cam with anice lope, but it didn't shake the car to hell at idle despite the fact that Comp Cams website lists it as "rough idle."

Brandon, unless he has better valve springs and had checked the guide to retainer clearance i would go with either this...

comp 268H
or this
clevite 229-2138

i had a summit grind 218/228 @ .050 with .471 lift in a otherwise stock 302 with a holley 600. it didnt have too much of a lope but it pulled VERY hard from the bottom up to and past 5k rpm's

ok well he either wants the clevite 229-2138 or the ford racing cam or the comp 268H what one would give best performance all around

i was thinkin that the ford cam waould have some lope to it because of the longer exhaust duration and i have heard that it has a little chop to it from a member on stang net but it seems like no one else has used one and i haven't installed mine yet

If you go to Comp Cams website, they have soundclips of several cams.
