Default 5 lugs on a 6 cylinder spindle

I have a 66 Mustang parts car that was a 6 cylinder car but now has 5 lug wheels on it. I was of the understanding that if you wanted 5 lug wheels you had to change to the V8 spindles and steering linkage (maybe I am wrong). Can someone tell me if there is a 5-lug hub that fits on the six cylinder spindle (apparently, there is because that's what I have)? I am just curious what these are off of, as the spindles and linkage are identical to what is in my wife's 66 six cylinder car. They appear to be stock Ford 10-inch drums and brakes, but on the six cylinder spindles.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

Sorry, I'm a little confused by what you mean, but...

A lot of people do the Granada swap - switching out the spindles from a Ford Granada to the mustang. they are almost a direct bolt in, and that may be what you are seeing. There is not a 5 lug hub that fits on the 6 cyl spindle, to the best of my knowledge

the spindles have been changed theres no hubs i know of that are 5 lug that fit the 6 banger spindles. my trick is to use the 71-73 drum spindles they are thicker i have them on my 68 bolted right in.

Well, that's what I thought, but the spindles look the same as what's on my wife's 6-cylinder car. I will see if I can get photos. I plan to do the Granada swap on my wife's car (I already have the spindles), I am just trying to identify what is on this parts car, as it is a surprise to me.

I agree with your comment about the spindle strength. I am not planning to use these on my car; just trying to identify it. I will check the spindle numbers and see if they are truly the same as our 6 cylinder car.

Is it possible someone put a I6 in your parts car and that is was originally a V8? Have you checked the VIN on it?

Actually, the car had a V8 in it. The previous owner removed the engine and trans before parting it out. He is the one who said it was originally a 6. The steering linkage looks identical to the parts on my wife's 6 cylinder car. I had assumed that it was V8 linkage and spindles, but when someone came over who was interested in purchasing them, we took a look and it all appears to be 6 cylinder stuff except for the backing plates and drums....

What's the VIN number? And do you have a 5 lug rear axle?
