so i pulled the heads off the ol 289.
And I found that my car DOES have the original 63,500 miles on it. It doesnt really have a ridge on the the top of the cylinder, so im assuming it doesn't have 163000 miles on it. The only thing causing it to smoke was the valve stem seals which was like plastic, and where mostly gone. So im probably going to get a fresh pair of heads, and a new Hi performance cam, and put it back together.

Why not just replace the seals they are only about $15 and since you have the heads off about 30 minites to replace with a rental tool spring compresser from autozone or advance

I should be doing this soon never done it before so should be intresting, not sure on getting the valve stem changed or just go for aluminum heads, if i get the heads will go 4v carb but want to keep it some what correct so am thinking 4100 rather than demon but that could change!!

i know where i can get some of the Explorer heads. I already got a weiand stealth intake, i just need to pick out a good cam, and either rebuild my heads, or get some others.

ok im heading to pick a part saturday. Im thinking buying a pair of explorer heads if i can find some. So the only years to use are 96-97? what about earlier? I cant go to the later model since im still running the original manifolds.
