it can its not a bolt in you gotta shorten it cut off all the mounting brackets on it and weld on your spring pearchs. the cheapest place to get a 8 inch or 9 inch http://www.perogie.com/Rears.htm

The reason I ask is that I have an 8" back there now. I am looking at purchasing an entire Fox Body to use the engine, trans, computer and anything else I possible can from it. I know the 8.8 is better than the 8. I am not too worried about making new spring perches or cutting the old stuff off the axle. The thing that gets me is "narrowing" it. Time to look at those websites!

Scott H., dig the write-up, but it doesn't say how you dealt with the fact that the 8.8 is 2" wider. Did you cut it down or change the backspacing of the wheels or what? Inquiring minds want to know ........

8", did ford put 8" in them, i know that the I-6 used a 7.5" rear then the 289 stangs used the 9" rear. A direct bolt for a 67-68 is the mid 90's ranger. the strongest of those being the 4x4 version.

As said, too wide for your app. I used one in my 67, fits there nice. Unless you're buying new wheels as well, then Iguess the width doesn't matter.

is there any modification needed to put a fox body rear on a 68 mustang? what about the 90's ranger rear?

i believe the 90's rangers should bolt straight in, i believe they have the 59.25" or 59.75" flange to flange. there will always be modification need to do anything on an old car, its just how much, i am not sure about how much, but an 8.8 from a mustang GT came with the 3.73's didnt they? so that would be one thing you wouldnt have to worry about.
