Default Engine still backfiring

Of course I'm back again with the same old question. Pulled my timing cover off, currently review the timing chain numbers against the mild cam purchase to make sure the match. Other question is that my friend who is helping me thinks something is still with the firing order. I used my mustang book and review the 302 firing order its the same on the intake. Could there be something different? I do have a early model 302 just sure the year. Would that make a difference? Block is labeled 302. We going to turn the engine by hand to make the distributor/timing chain/1st piston/ham balancerare all lined up correctly.
Thanks

Default RE: Engine still backfiring

Standard Ford 302 firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8, HO version is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8, hope this will help.
