A decent article, if a bit vague in areas. The bit about port volume vs. displacement and RPM was interesting.

It's not really a newb article, it doesn't discuss the issues in depth and uses terms that would be unfamiliar to many. Terms like "port volume" and "rod ratio". Issues like the effects of main journal size vs. RPM.

I sure do and it's tempting. Maybe I'll buy a stroker kit this winter instead of buy a supercharger for the 347.

The article is 10 years old. Back then there were a lot fewer backyard mechanics (like me) who could afford to even think about stroking an engine! The article still mentions cutting down and "adapting" crankshafts to make a stroker. Now we can buy stroker assemblies "off the shelf" for just a little more than using similar parts to go back stock...

As for heads for a 408 stroker,, Victor Jr's all the way baby!!!

Victor Jr's are just plain hard to beat out of the box. Prolly a bit large for a mild cammed 408, but a hot street 408 with a good cam and induction and they'd make it into a monster. CHI 3V 185's, 351W, 1" compression height pistons, custom length rods, blower....long rod 351 with CHI heads and a blower and you have an easy 600-700hp pump gas monstrosity without turning more than 6,000rpm or running high boost

I don't if my son's car is a monster or not,,,, but it is for sure an animal....

408 with Victor Jr. heads, 242 & 248 @.050, .576 & .600 lift, 110 lobe sep. (advertised 294 & 300)
RPM Air gap, (streetability comprimise), 750 Mighty Deamon.... 4.10 gears....

As my son says, "anything you have in your front pockets is going to end up in thebackseat floorboard"

if you get a world man o war 460 which is a stroker based off there 351w block you get 600hp 575 foot pounds throw the right blower on it that youll pushing 900+hp easy.but if your a displacement junkie like me you can get a aftermarket 460 block and stroke it to a 806 the sky and your wallet are the limit on most engines now a days.
