RE: shelby clone
honestly its cheaper to buy a fastback then make out of a coupe i thought about it when i got mine the price list i had was around 7 grand with me doing all the work. you have to replace the whole roof trunk the panel between the trunk the door glass. and back window the backseat alot of inside trim most of that you gotta get from a junkyard..shelby did race a couple coupes and made 2 prototype coupes.the de mexico i believe where 69/70.

I agree.
Don't chop up your 66 coupe. Sell yours and put the money towards
getting a fastback. If you don't mind all of the sheetmetal work,
rust repair and welding to convert a coupe, then you won't mind
repairing a fastback (excuse me, 2+2) that only needs to be restored
and then modified Shelby style.
I have a 67 coupe which I wanted to make into a fastback, especially
once I saw there are full quarters, roofs and all outside sheetmetal
available. Once I took a closer look and researched more, I
realized the trunk divider, decklid hinges, quarter vents and interior
roof supports were going to be a major PITA, not to mention
costly. It turned out to be actually cheaper to buy one of those
(please don't get mad at me) Dynacorn Taiwanese Mustang fastbacks, and
just build it.
My humble 2 cents.

RE: shelby clone
There were several US made Shelby coupes. The EXP 500 (green hornet) and Little Red. Carroll Shelby ordered them destroyed after only several prototypes were produced. Only one EXP 500 is known to exist. Little Red has never been found. So, there were Shelby coupes produced in the US.
