Default 1968 Fastback Custom

I have a 1968 Fastback that im looking to custom, its been wrecked in the front end once and ive rebuilt the body decently, double welded and put a roll cage on it. Im planning on putting either a 427 CJ or a 302 BOSS. I would like to know the possibility of putting Independent Suspension on it, and as well if its even possible. and what rear end / gearing you would recommend?

On another note, what kind of transmission would be the best. My real ultimate goal is to make an 180mph mustang or close to it.

9" rear end with 3.50 - 3.89 gears. If you have the option of a 302 or a 427......the 427 is a no brainer.

plan on spending a LOT OF GREEN!!!! You will need a bunch of power to push a car with the aerodynamics of a poorly designed brick to push the car through the air at that speed. Of course you will need to figure out how to keep the car from going air born due to the natural lift of the body design.

There was no 427CJ, and a Boss 302 motor isn't a great street motor. IRS is possible, but expensive. Moving the car at 180mph is going to require severe aerodynamic mods to keep it planted on the ground.

irs sucks a straight axle with a 3 link and watts link will out handle it.yes theres bolt in irs like http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/ite...sp?T1=CF121+01 and yes 180mph will talk alot more power then a little fe can make your should look at a aftermarket 460 block you can bore and stroke that to a 806.

Shelby had the Super Snake (the 427 side-oiler powered 67fb) running around a banked oval at 175mph. Don't underestimate the FE.

Well i just returned from Iraq so i have about 55k to spend =)

The reason for the 302 BOSS over the 427 was asking about technicalitys such as, why is the 302 BOSS not a good street engine? the 427 is a big block right? pushing alot of weight in a little car, throwing the weight balance off heavily (working on that 51/49 pretty sure i can make it work). and the Aerodynamics, ive gotten my 68 coupe up to 140 and it does feel like its floating but is there really anything we can do about it? ie: bodykit, sandbags, anchor...?

t56 and the FE block. I'm pretty sure you will have to do a little fab to the tranny tunnel to fit the transmission, but they put it behind the viper so it can handle alot. On the rear end you can order a kit to convert it to a 03-04 cobra independent rear. The complete kit is 10K, but you won't find anything as complete as that.

you can get a alum fe but a fe doesnt have the bore and stroke the 385 can do.and on a banked oval track its easier to go higher speeds your having gravity pulling you down the bank on a salt flat or anything else flat you dont have that.a chin spoiler can help to a point only way to not have the front end floating at high speed is change the whole nose of the car.something like this http://www.trophymustang.com/1964196...nt-p-6925.html but its ugly and wouldnt fit with out alot of work.why not get a factory five shelby daytona coupe that will do 200mph with the right power train or a ultima gtr.
