want to join the mustang pack
Hi - I have been eyeing mustangs for a while and reading up what I can. Thanks for all the good posts. I have come across a car that I need to go check out and get details on, but wanted to post pics and ask if there is anything that just doesnt look right from some experienced Mustang eyes. I have other collecter cars (porsche - i know, i know) so my years of experience with those cars helps me spot oddball items, so I am hoping you folks can tell me if something looks good or nto good with these pics. It's a 67, obviously not a real GT. Thanks in advance:

+1 on checking the VIN(warranty number). On a car like that make sure you get it from a couple places to make sure its not a frankencar. Try to get the one from the dash and the other from the driver side fender. I don't consider the door tag as important as the other two because you can remove that one but hopefully it matches. The car looks great from the pictures but the main story of how good of shape the car is in is what it looks like underneath. The first and main places where rust forms are on the frame rails, floor pans and cowl. If those places check out it should be a rather solid car. Also don't forget a magnet to check for bondo.

+1 on the vin, but it is a 67 like you guessed, i cant tell by the door panels, the 68's had a diffrent style door panel. some places to check is the quarters obviously, the trunk battery tray, unders carriage, hood cowl those are the biggest rust collectors on the car.

Thanks for the *encouragement* - I know what you mean about the experience, I've rebuit/restored a porsche on my own and it is taking up any room i have for a resto project. I just like variety in cars, and dont have enough time to do it myself, so looking for one that's done. I wont get the same peace of mind with a finished car like i have with my other car (I know every nut and bolt personally).

It's worth reiterating that rust is the biggest problem with these cars, and it's repair can be very expensive.
When you plan on buying, either look at the car yourself or pay someone to look at it. Otherwise you're setting yourself up to get burned.
The horror stories are legion.
