Default bad, bad mpg problem...

Hi everyone. Still a newbie, but I like all the things that I'm learning here on the site. Just recently bought a 1966, I-6 200, rebuilt 2bbl and you'd think that the gas mileage would be "not bad", right? Well, I'm getting around 10mpg... I'm also having problems with the engine bogging a lot whenI accelerate and sometimes she doesn'tstart (not the starter).. probably a bad carb? Help!

Carb is definitely a place to start. Timing might also be an issue.

Carb and timing as mentioned above. Also check all your filters

What carb do you have? Didn't the 6ers come with a 1bbl and not a 2bbl?

Thanks for the replies guys! Umm.. yah, you are right. Its a 1bbl.. not 2.
Looks like I'm getting a new carb! I'll also check the timing and the filters. Gosh, I just love this site!

Why don't you just rebuild it? You may not need a new carb. Though, when I rebuilt mine, it turned out that it, in fact, was faulty, and I had to replace it.

You could get one from a parts store. I got a Holley 1946 rebuilt from Autozone and it bolted right on, and it took me 2 minutes. Ran great since.

Hi there, I havethe same car, buthave not checked mileage recently but it's around 20 mpg. I upgraded the ignition to Pertronix. Sounds like it's time for a tune-up. As stated check timing, and vacuum advance, then carb.

Does the car sound like it should? Smoke coming from the tailpipes? A bad spark plug could be the problem. This will cause the engine bogging issue as well.
