I don;t have a lot of experience with tri-y headers but it would seem to me you would benefit more from long tubes with minimum 1 5/8" primary tubes if you're hoping to reach those hp numbers.

use the 289 rotating assembly in the 302 block, thats the best combination as the cylinder walls go down a little further in a 302 than in the 289's which equals better piston stability. plus, the 302's are a dime a dozen.

also, PLEASE upgrade your rods bolts. i cannot stress how important it is to recondition your rods and upgrade the bolts to some 5/16 arp's (drilling out for 3/8 is a bad deal). also spend the 20 bucks on a arp oil pump driveshaft.

other than that i think you'll have a great running motor as long as those heads dont fall apart on ya

Contrary to popular belief, 302 cylinders are not actually longer than those in a 289. I knowa couple peoplewho haveactually mic'd them side by side, same length.

That said, if you have a 289 rotating assembly and a 302 block, no reason you can't put the two together (unless it's a one-piece rear main block)
