Default Carb Question

Thanks for everybodys help with my many questions. I am looking at an Autolite spread bore 4100 from pony carbs. Has anybody here used their carbs. Pony carbs claims that swapping to a correctly sized and tuned 480cfm carb and duel exhaust will do the following:
1. They atomize the fuel better then any other carb, almost as good a FI
2. They are pretty much maintenance free
3. They take almost two seconds of standing quarter mile time
4. You get 20 plus mpg highway
5. They eliminate flat spots and improve the 4100 over factory specs
All for $515. I am interested to hear what anybody thinks. How true do you think this is and are they worth that price?
Thanks guys.
Kip

Autolites are very reliable carburetors, but some of what they claim is BS. No carb is going to take 2 WHOLE SECONDS off a quarter mile time. You'd need a bunch if nitrous or boost to do that. 20+mpg highway is going to depend on the engine, the trans, gearing, where and how you drive.

$515 seems kinda steep. I bought one on eBay for $100 (+$15 shipping) and a rebuild kit for $35 (+$12 shipping). So all told, I'm in for $162 plus some carb cleaner.

Sounds like a good marketing speel.But...... That's a lot of money for a Carb, although Pony has a good reputation. If you must go with an Autolite carb, its a good option. If not both Holley and Edelbrock make very fine & tuneable parts as well for 1/2 the money.

I've got a 4100 spreadbore carbdone by Pony. ('65 Mustang with a 289 / C4) Runs like a champ - never once had a problem with it. It sips gas on the primaries then really jumps when I put my foot into it and open the secondaries. I think the 2 second time Pony was talking about is when you go from a 2 barrel stock 2100 carb to a 4 barrel 4100 conversion. I like mine - would do it again too.

Not a big fan of spreadbore carbs, and I wouldn't pay that much money for a carb unless it was a show piece. Autolite 4100's are great carbs for a stock or mild 289/302, and Pony Carbs does good work...but I'd much rather have an aftermarket carb if I was going to spend the money.
