new steering wheel too stiff
I recently got a grant wheel on my mustang, and at first everything seemed fine. then i noticed that the wheel was a little loose when i pushed around on it. just a little wobble, but it bothered me. so i tightened it down a little more, and now the wheel seems SO much harder to turn. any ideas as to what is going on? do i need to clean/lubricate somthing? is it even posible to over tighten?

Sounds like the wheel hub is now butted up tight against the outer steering column. You didn't say what year car this is, but on a '65/66, you can loosen the 'U' bracket under the dash that holds the outer column centered and push the outer column back down toward the floorboards. That should get you enough room up top for the wheel hub.

well, im a few years newer..got a 73. I went and looked at the bracket on there though like you said, and it looks like I might be able to do somthing down there. havnt tried it yet.
I also looked around the hub, and it is indeed making contact with the column.
If i were to push the column, you mean push it lengthwise, like more toward the engine?

If it is harder to turn after you really cranked on it tightening it down then I'd start by backing that off a little bit.
Was the steering wheel wobbly or was the column wobbly?

yeah, I have the right adapter and stuff. I thought about ginding the hub down a bit, and i still might as a last resort. but I had this idea this morning...i have some extra plate steel lying around (16 g) and i thought about making some plates with the same hole setup andsticking those behind the hub to push the edge away from the column?I cant think of anything that might bea problem with this. any ofyou guys?
