how to remove the cowl
my 1967 that i just purchased has a lot of leaves and debri in the cowl. i want to clean it out before it all starts to rot. do i have to take the fender off to get to the cowl bolts? or do i take the chrome stripping off around the windshield...i hope it's something easier than any of those haha.

RE: how to remove the cowl
i have heard of people drilling a large hole in the side of the cowl to be able to get inside and clean out the leaves after removing the fenders. the plastic top hats make a good repair if the cowl is not rotted all to hell.
67 evil- are you sure you have to remove the engine?

No, you can leave it in. But it makes it hard to drill out the spot welds and re-weld. Its just easier to stand in the engine bay and work. I guess I always think in terms of a full nuts and bolts resto andnormally takeeverything apart. Usually with the debris in the cowl areas, I would think they are shot. A good way to tell is put your hand up thru the passanger vent and you can feel around the hat to see how much damage is done. Careful as not to get your arm stuckor pick up a rat. If its shot, then my money is on the drivers side being in the same condition. A temp fix would bea plastic cowl vent seal.

Yeah if there is damage there is no easy fix. The entire cowl must be replaced, or at least patched which involves the same steps as evil said, removing all the stuff and drilling out the spot welds. It isn't really that hard if you have some skills but it is a daunting task ripping apart your car that way. There are many articles covering cowl replacement and fixes. If your cowl has never been fixed or replaced, then it is probably shot and needs attention.
