Default What parts should I use?

So, I decided to have my engine rebuilt (289), and I am deciding which parts to use when I rebuild it. Some things I have a pretty good idea about but others I dont really know. Here is a list of what I am thinking, let me know if they are good ideas or not, and what you would recommend.

1) Intake: Edelbrock Performer RPM
2) Carb: Edelbrock 600CFM with electric choke
3) Headers: Hooker Competition
4) Exhaust: Flowmaster American Thunder with 40 series mufflers
5) Distributor: HEI?
6) Heads: Get mine ported an polished? I really have no idea...
7) Cam: Should I stick with Edelbrock? Again, no idea...

After that stuff I really dont know what else I would need. I would assume that the shop where I have it rebuilt would get the pistons and rings and stuff for the rebuild. Do I need anything else? water pump, valves, rockers, rollers, rods, bearings, pulleys, etc. Im just not sure. I have a C4 and I want a car that will be lots of fun to drive on the street and ill be able to take to the track on the weekends. Also, how much money would a rebuild cost, not including the parts I have listed?

that looks like you have a solid start. you may want to take a small step down from the performer rpm intake to a wieand #8124, and you may also want to supply your own pistons and rings just so you know what you have. federal mogul hyper flat tops with coated skirts are like 100 bucks or so a set and moly rings are like 30.00

for a cam, anything larger than .475ish and your going to need new valve springs which is a good idea to replace anyways - and your heads are going to require hardened seats to be installed so you *may* want to just do some junk yard shopping and snag a set of GT40 heads from a mid-late 90's explorer. this way you have bigger valves and ports, and hard seats already, then all you need is stiffer springs and a regular valve job on them. another route to go is you can get patriot aluminum heads brand new for less than 900 bucks and bolt them right on. that is PROBABLY the best money you can spend on your entire motor as it will save you the headaches of hunting better parts separately and will net you huge HP gains.

Those sound good if they are correct. That way I wouldn't have to worry about the valves or anything else and they are some of the cheapest heads I have seen. Also, is there something bad about the performer rpm? I have just seen more of them. Whats the difference between it and the wieand?

Those heads are for a Modular, you need Windsor family heads for 289/302. Pistons and rings is a good idea, and at LEAST good ARP rod bolts.

i actually have the performer rpm on my 289, and i have it ported and the center divider is knocked down..... but i also like to shift @ 7000 RPM's.

the weiand 8124 is better than the edelbrock performer but not quite as big as a performer rpm. it ends up being a perfect blend of bottom end nut and mid range power which is perfect for a muscle / street application.

^ those are the heads, and buying from site sponsors is always a plus. @ 850.00 with shipping you can't hope for a better deal.

that gets more trickey. some people will tell you to get a custom cam and it is the best route but also alot more money and if you choose wisely you can do just as well. a real rough outline would probably be something in the .475 - .525 lift and 220 - 230 degrees @ .050 duration. also you'd want something that is "dual pattern" which means the intake and exhaust have different specs (usually favoring the exhaust since those ports need more help to perform well)

also your gonna need some roller rockers - crane energizers 1.6's are a great buy.
