289 build up Could use help
whats up everybody, i'm new to the vintage car thing and i'm building up my 66'. So far I've started with the intake and carb. Edlebrock 600CFM carb and Edlebrock performer intake. What should be the next step to the build up if I don't want to do cylinder heads yet?? how much power do you think I added by taking off all the california EGR stuff and replacing it with the 4 barrel and the new intake? Oh yeah...it has the same exhaust manifold, but has after market after that. Can I get some answers? Got any questions. I'm trying to do this on a budget so I can write about it for a local newsletter. THANKS P.S. Happy new years.

id get a petronix setup for the distributor next to get rid of the old points style ignition and add a set of shelby style tri-y headers for a period look unde the hood

+1 for headers and the upgraded ignition.
a mild cam really helps after the intake and headers, as ford used some pretty weak grinds back in the day. stick with something .475 or less, or even .450 or so (so your not pushing 40 year old springs so hard) and you'll notice a hellofa difference.
