65-66 toploader questions
Do any of you guys have pics of the "z" bar and the attaching springs? My car an original 4 speed, but the PO robbed it of all the parts before I bought it. I could really use a few illustrations to see how all this goes back together! I did the roller bearing upgrade to the clutch pedal, new nylon insulators for the heavy spring under the dash, etc. I do have the mount on top of the frame rail, and the one on the engine...Any help would be most appreciated!

RE: 65-66 toploader questions
Mine was ghetto rigged when I got it. I finally got tied of the z-bar setup and went to hydraulic. If I remember, there was a spring that was attached to the shift fork and went forward to somewhere on the chassis. I believe there was also a return spring somewhere up top in the engine compartment. Do you have a manual? That may have a picture of the stock assembly.

RE: 65-66 toploader questions
I did the same rebuild (by the way makes a HUGE difference)- I am not sure what you are specifically asking - since you have one mount on each side, which is normal, the Z bar goes right in the middle - sounds to me that the question is more around the spring ... if so then it goes from the clutch fork (the one that pushes the throw out bearing) to the front driver side frame of the car ... if I am off base, could you clarify the question?

Actully that spring goes form the release lever to the front of the z bar the zbar should have a little notch in it where the spring goes. I would give you a pic but mine is all torn apart now

RE: 65-66 toploader questions
I have my '66 coupe up in the air so I snaped a couple pics for you. It is hard to get a good photo because the headers are in the way. I don't have a spring on the top side of the z-bar. I am not sure if there is supposed to be one. My car was an auto originaly and I converted it to the toploader myself. I got all the parts through mustangs unlimited. If you look close you should be able to tell what the spring is and where its going.
This is the clutch fork
This is the other and of the spring that hooks to the clutch fork. It hooks into the frame above the round crossmember(under the oil pan) and next to the motor mount.
